2017 Maryland Private School Baseball Tournament

5/29/2017 9:39:30 AM

In a truncated format this year, DeMatha met Avalon School in one semifinal while Spalding faced off against McNamara.

DeMatha beat Avalon 3-0 in semifinal #1 behind Marcus Brown's stellar start on the mound.

Brown pitched 7 innings of 3 hit ball, striking out 4 Mustangs along the way.  Brown also contributed at the plate, going 2-3 with a double.

In semifinal #2, Spalding beat McNamara by a score of 3-2.

DeMatha took down Spalding by a score of 3-0 behind another stellar pitching performance, this time from Thomas Keehn.  Keehn pitched 7 innings of 2 hit ball, striking out 7 on 86 pitches.

Like Brown in the semis, Keehn helped himself out at the plate going 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored.  Marcus Brown, Alex Greene also went 2-3 for the Stags as they claimed the Governors Flag Private School Championship for 2017.

I hear Spalding did not play their seniors.  But then again, Keehn, DeMatha's best pitcher, did not play against Spalding when the two teams met in the regular season. He pitched against Spalding Saturday.  The WCAC is a great baseball conference.
